For Saunas Columbus Is Worth Visiting

By Deborah Thomas

A sauna refers to a small building or room that is designed for experiencing wet or dry heat sessions. An establishment that has these rooms may also be referred to as a sauna. Another name for these rooms is sudatory. The high heat and steam that people are exposed to when inside a sudatory makes them to perspire. The perspiration is believed to have several different health benefits. When in need of Saunas Columbus should be visited.

Finland is known to be the origin of saunas in the western world. Almost every house in Finland has an in-built sauna. Initially, pits were dug in a slope to construct saunas. During the cold months of winter the pits were turned into dwellings. During the heat sessions there was a fireplace in saunas that had stones, which were heated to very high temperatures.

Production of steam was done by throwing water on hot stones. A sense of increased heat was generated when water is thrown on stones. Firewood was applied in heating the stones for 6-8 hours. Firewood produced smoke and therefore a door could be opened to eliminate smoke. Individuals entered the room after the smoke was eliminated to enjoy a heat session.

The sauna culture was widespread in the whole of Europe in the Middle Ages. This was caused by the widespread of syphilis. However, after that period, the culture died in most of the European countries, with Finland being the only exception. The Finnish people continued to practice the culture, something that led to the sauna culture being largely known to have originated from Finland. Strictly, speaking, Finland is not the country of origin of the culture.

Thirty minutes or so are taken to heat up modern steam saunas. To observe hygiene, users normally sit on towels. For faster perspiration, some walk in the room after taking a warm bath. Cases where the face overheats while the body feels comfortable are usually experienced. For such cases, a towel may be put on the head and face to help with cooling down. At times, a hat may be worn to offer protection to the head against the heat.

There are different ways in which the heat in the room can be adjusted. Increasing the quantity of water poured on the heater is one way. More humidity is created when more water is poured on the heater. This causes more perspiration. The duration a person stays in the room is important. Overheating and severe dehydration may happen when one overstays there.

As such, the total time that one spends in the sudatory must be observed. One can adjust how hot they get while inside a sudatory by assuming certain body postures. Usually, the more surface area of the body is exposed to direct heat, the hotter one gets and the more they perspire.

More of direct radiation is experienced by people located nearest to the heater. Depending on how hot one feels, they can always change their position. One can achieve a more even distribution of warmth on the body if they lie on a bench while inside the sudatory.
