Ice Fishing Houses In Minnesota

By Timothy Stone

Angling can be done during summer or winter depending on the likes and interests of a person. Angling that is done during winter involves a person cutting a hole or holes in the ice on a lake, lake or any other water basin. For instance, ice fishing houses in Minnesota are there to cater for the needs of people who like trawling during freezing weather. Therefore, if you want to trawl in freezing weather, make a point of visiting this state.

This kind of trawling is normally popular in this state, and many tourists travel from different parts of the world just to fish in Minnesota. Some rules have been laid by the trawling department of this state, and they must be followed like regular trawling. These rules have to be observed both by the anglers and the shelter owners.

This winter angling season is considered to be like the normal open water trawling, but it usually starts at different times depending on how thick the glacier is in different locations of the state. Hence, the trawling department has created boundaries that dictate when the houses have to be taken away from the frozen waters to prevent them from sinking when the glaciers start melting.

Therefore, the North side of the boundary allows the shelters to stay on the waters until the mid of March. On the other hand, the shelters located in the South must be moved from the waters by early March as the glacier melts earlier in this part. Consequently, the anglers who choose to do their angling in the North have an advantage of angling for two more weeks compared to those angling in the south.

The rules of angling in glacier shelters are somewhat different from regular trawling. For instance, when anglers are trawling in this frozen water, they are allowed to put only two lines through the glacier. Also, they have to stay within 200 feet of the angling lines whenever they are angling. These lines must not be left unattended during any time of the day or night.

If it chances that the fishers are using any overnight shelter, they must only use one line. Additionally, if they happen to catch any fish, they must ensure that they have placed it back into the waters on the immediate effect or just place it over the glacier. Any angler who intends to trawl during the night must be aware of these regulations and make a point of following them.

Winter angling is not complete without a shelter thus this is the main key of this kind of trawling. If the lake is large, many angling shelters can gather and form a village. This village must, however, follow all the rules as well as regulations of the state to make sure the shelters are safe for the anglers and there is the availability of fish all the time.

It is a rule that all the shelters to have a license and address displayed on them to be easily identified. For the overnight shelters, it is a rule that they have an exteriorly placed strip made of reflective materials and it should be at least two inches in length. This will make them be easily spotted at night.
