Planning Custom Built Barges For Sale

By Jennifer Kennedy

It is the summer break and you and your friends cannot wait to get out of the city. You had your summer escapade all planned out and talked about where to go like which islands you want to visit. Included in all the planning was the travel, of course. And by the grace of God, you were born wealthy and have a boat on your own. So part of the planning was wondering about a custom built barges for sale to bring your car and knowing where it sold.

Barges are different from your regular boats. They do not have that V looking shape underneath but they are rather flat. The reason for this is convenience to place cargo in a better position. Imagine putting cargo that does not have a flat surface, which would be a problem. For the record, this vessel is usually tugged by another boat. Although technology has advanced and there are new barges that can run on their own.

There are several functions of a barge and all have their own unique names. The vessel that carries cargo is classified into two. One is the dry bulk and the other is the liquid. Do not think of these names literally. How can there be a liquid looking raft. The name corresponds to what they carry. Dry bulk is for dry goods like steel or clothing.

The other cargo type that carries liquid is not just water or soft drinks but included are gases like petroleum, oil and liquid fertilizer some sort. In some areas, they would prefer to separate the two because they do not want it to be mixed in together due to chemical reactions. It is also easier for them when they are segregated that way.

The common ones that everybody knows of carry cars. Not even just cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and even those vehicles used up in the air. This is usually offered if one wants to go to another island and bring along them their personal ride. Not just for that function, those are used as floating landing stations, especially for the air vehicles. You have probably seen a floating helipad for water facilities.

There also rafts that deals with construction. One is called the crane and this is not related to the birds. If you have seen those machines that are usually yellow and do heavy lifting in constructions areas, those are the kind of cranes. Another is called the jack up. Those that kind of looks like spiders above water. They have column like structures in each corner and this is used as a drilling platform.

Now we also have the Hopper barge. These vessels are one few vessels that cannot navigate on its own. They are towed by another ship. They are used to carry boulders, large amounts of sand, soil and grain like those used in land reclamation projects. Projects related to this are those that want additional land in existing land.

Barrack barges is another type. They are more of a residential kind of vessel rather than being of a transport. Our navy men are the usual residents to this. It is not all the time that they live in ships. Just imagine a house floating, that is what it basically looks like.

Now you know the different types and uses of these vessels. So if you plan in considering in purchasing one, then now you know which one to get. Maybe sooner or later, you desire to purchase all of them because you want to donate them, then that would be a good idea, too.
