Traps That Will Securely Catch And Get Rid Of Gophers That Has Been Bugging You

By Richard Cox

Pests are those pesky animals that cause damage and hassle to human life. Sometimes they are invasive and dig around our property. That is why let us discuss about How to trap a gopher.

In the Midwest, there are many pests there but one of them is gophers. You might not see them on the land because they live underground. But you could see the holes they dig and that commonly is called Gopher Mounds.

When the trap in place, you have to secure it safety lines with stake so the injured gopher could not run away with the trap. Those safety lines could be made from material that the gopher would not be able to cut or gnaw through. It should be metal material like chain or heavy thick wire and it will work well.

There is another method and that is to dig a hole that should be larger around the mound. Make sure it is all cleaned out and make it bigger evenly. The times when gopher plugs their hole, they fill back their passage and when dig out under the pile, there is no passage to be discover. But it was there, one should just be preserver to find it.

To ensure trapping the pests then should focus the energy on those fresh mounds. But do not waste the precious time on mound and that tunnel system if it is vacant. You should be observant as much as walking around your property if you can and do it every day.

It depends on activity of gophers that is in the backyard, if it is active then it will only take a few minutes but if not then maybe it will take hours. To make sure that it did not get away check the ambush every two or three times in a day. The traps does not have to be hundred percent deadly every time. If it is then it would be better if it dead immediately if not then you do not want it to suffer right.

Wear leather at this next step. Not for digging but for looking for passage. They have very sharp teeth and you do not want to be unprepared when you received the attacking end of it. There might be other items inside the tunnels that surely do not want to be on your hands.

Normally, the passage will be a foot under the surface, but they can dig up to two feet. In rare cases, the clues to finding it through patterns in dirt near the mound. The tunnel usually is in direction away from the entrance of the mound. If one tunnel is found then it will usually lead to main tunnel.

Though no matter how hard you try, there is still an ugly spot in your yard and it is ok. But if you are just going to make it nice and beautiful then it was worth the effort to exterminate those rodents. Those pesky rats will make a whole tunnel under your property if wants too.
