By Janet Allen

Maintenance is required if anything has to last longer and awnings are no execution when it comes to this. With the right materials and tools preserving, cleaning, and protecting the life of awnings is both affordable and easy. However, experts recommend that it is better if the problem can be avoided or prevented in advance by doing everything the right way. When in need of Awning and Canopy Manhattan should be visited.

When a person does everything accordingly, the challenge of stains, dirt, and normal tear and wear should be easy to address and ensure awnings retain their new appearance. Besides, the appearance they will also be structurally sound with no risk of collapsing or the canvas being off by the wind. Homeowners should know that besides the normal wear and tear, awnings break down faster due to improper cleaning and lack of cleaning.

Stains come in two major types that one is most likely to come across when cleaning awnings. The two types of stains are contact/residual and organic stains. They both occur on nearly every fabric type out there. Stains need to be dealt with soonest before they get entrenched into the fabric. Furthermore, timely cleaning improves the success of getting the stains off the fabric.

Just as hinted by the name, residual or contact stains result from contact with a broad spectrum of substances. Such substances include dust smears, bird droppings, grease, foods, dirt and oils. Organic stains on the flip side arise due to biological sources, which include mold and mildew. It is possible to clean the fabric while it is still fitted on the frame of the awning.

The first step to cleaning the fabric is by brushing off as much loose dirt or debris as possible. Such debris includes leaves and cobwebs. A broom can also be used in place of a brush. This is then followed by using a cleaning solution. Cleaning solution is just clean lukewarm water mixed with mild natural soap. Detergents should never be used as they are too harsh. The water should be lukewarm but not exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wetting the fabric should be done next. A spray bottle or garden hose can be used for this. One should then saturate the scrub brush into the cleaning solution and scrub the fabric with it. Circular motion should be used in scrubbing. One should only apply the solution on areas that need cleaning. This prevents the soap from drying on areas that are not cleaned.

The last step is to rinse off the awning, which can be done using a garden hose. Rinsing is necessary for the removal of water mixture and soap. In the absence of a garden hose a person can fill a bucket of water then pour if on the fabric. The fabric should then be left to air dry after thorough rinsing. The cleaning procedure for each type of material differs, although some steps are compulsory.

To finalize, the framework of the structure should be checked regularly to ensure that it is firmly and properly attached to the building. All loose screws should be tightened. The awning should also be checked for any loose stitches or holes during the inspection and repairs done.
